Minke Whale MWSat tracked to the Antarctic!
We heard from MWsat1 (Spot) again on Sunday, and he's now heading towards the Southern Ocean, approaching the Antarctic convergence (or Antarctic Polar Front, which sits at about 55 - 58 deg S in this area) south of the Great Australian Bight.
He is still a long way from the ice edge (shown as the orange line for today on this map). His tag now only transmits once every 5 days, and although the battery could last for a bit longer, the tag has been attached for over 64 days, and the probability of subsequent transmissions is decreasing.
Nonetheless, his travels to this point have been tantalisingly interesting, and he's covered a minimum of 6000 km already.
